Winter Project film trip in Andörja, Norway

Here´s a late update from our adventure in Anderöja!

Andörja is a grope of islands located in the northern part of Norway between Narvik and Tromsö. The area is famous for its summer sea fishing but fairly unexplored to freesking until a few years ago. Andörja is an Island full of peaks and 10 of them is over 1000meters straight down in the Norwegian fjords.

Our contacts in Norway pulled their strings in the county of Ibaestad and Troms to get a landing permission on the island of Andörja. Early February we got the permission to land at almost all peaks on the island from middle of March until May. So now started planning the trip!

It snowed a lot in March and April but the weather never cleared up.. A bit frustrating for all of us in the crew, all of us wanted to get up there bad! Then we saw a weather window in end of April and got up there. I hooked up with Nicke Jacobsson from Winter Project, Olof Larsson and FRWT winner Janette Hargin and took a flight to Narvik/Harstad. From there we moved on whit speedboat to the village of Engenes on Andörja . Engenes is a fishing village with all its 50 residents.

First day the weather looked pretty good so we decided to go up in high altitude whit the heli and check out the snow. A few days earlier we got reports of fresh snow up there but the night we arrived the temperature rose and as we made it up we discovered that the pow just gone wet!

We decided to stay a few days as we saw the wind was changing and a new storm was coming in. A few days became a week and the storm was still hanging over us with a lot of wind, fog and rain. After 9 days of waiting we saw the mountains in the evening for the first time in a week, and decided to call in the heli.

5am next day the Heli landed outside our cabin and the weather was perfect! I stood on top of my first line 6am and looked out of a scenery worth waiting for!

See the result of the trip in the upcoming Winter project movie that’s realized for free on Internet this autumn!

Norway, Harstad and Anderöja!

It has been a most eventful first day here in Harstad, Norway. We arrived here late last night for the Winter Projects Heli mission in Anderöja. The weather was looking really nice in the end of last week so we decided to travel up here to give it a try. The weekend offered mild weather unfortunately, but as for now it looks like more snow is coming!

I started of this trip’s first day on a kind of shitty way; I cut my hand open with a bread knife at the breakfast buffet. So it was no other alternative but to jump in a cab and go to the hospital for some stitches. So now I have stitches in my left hand and a dysfunctional thumb on the other. But as long as I can hold my ski poles, there’s no problem!

After the hospital we went to the helicopter hangar to have a briefing with the pilot and we decided to fly out to Anderöja if the weather would allow us later that afternoon and evening. As day the day went on, the clouds started to break up and later during the evening we headed out towards the island for some snow checking and to spot runs. The snow had sadly got warm all the way up to the top, this was something that we hade predicted though. So on again was the waiting game; hopefully the snow is coming later this week so we aren’t too stressed out yet. This is a place where you don’t mind waiting, surrounded with the most beautiful mountains and fjords, which are especially beautiful viewed from a helicopter.

Tomorrow are we moving out to live on the island of Anderröja, where I most definitely not going to have Internet access, so hold your thumbs for us and I’ll get back with a report once back to the civilization!

Had some trouble with my hand for the last two weeks so I decided to go back home en check it out. Here’s what I got… a broken thumb! Not good in the middle of the season, but I think I’m on it again in a week or two!

Emanuel Hedvall, Italy and a secret spot!

Here´s a movie from a secret spot in Italy last week. All skiing is done in one day and only by using lift´s. Not extreme but really fun!

Sun in Canazei

First sunny day in Canazei! Got some shoots and had a really nice day. The ski system here is one of the biggest I have ever seen. Lifts for miles and miles…
