Oscar before the Austrian Freeski Open
It is time for the 8th edition of the Austrian Freeski Open. Between the 25th and 28th of February Zell am See Kaprun will host some of the world’s top freeskiers. Among them is SOS rider Oscar Scherlin. The Austrian Freeski Open is famous for it’s high level and last year Oscar managed to end up as number 4.
We gave Oscar a call before the competition:
SOS: How is everything in Zell am See Kaprun?
Oscar: We have had really bad weather here today. We’ve been sitting in a restaurant all day waiting for the weather to calm down. They were forced to cancel today’s qualifying runs and move it to tomorrow. So I might not be competing until Sunday, which is if they dont have both qualifications and finals tomorrow.
SOS: How do you prepare for a competition like this?
Oscar: I ski more or less every day throughout the season and try new tricks on a daily basis. About two weeks before a competition I start to prepare and practice more intensively. When I arrive I check out the course and try to figure out what is possible and what not. Then I try the course a couple of times before I decided upon what my run will be like and then I stick with it. I might have an extra trick up the sleeve for my second run if I have done well in the first.
SOS: What is your ambition for this year?
Oscar: The podium. Nothing more, nothing less.
SOS: Do you have any favorite riders in this competition?
Oscar: Jossi Wells and Russ Henshaw are here, and they are both super good. And if Henrik Harlaut enters he will be among the favorites as well. It will be a tough competition for sure.
SOS: How important is the Austrian Freeski Open?
Oscar: It’s the biggest competition down here now that Play Street is gone. It is also a really good event, with several great skiers. It used to be almost only local riders, but now they have managed to attract more international riders. Which is great!
Everyone at SOS would like to wish Oscar the best of luck! We believe in you more than Sir Alex Ferguson believe in Man U!
